If you have been teaching and/or been an administrator and did not meet your professional development requirements please follow these procedures:
Initial Certificate Holder: You have accrued four years of teaching experience on initial teaching certificate(s) and request a one-year reinstatement of that certificate. During the reinstatement, you will need to complete the applicable continuing education requirement for eligibility for the Standard certificate. You will need to attach letter(s) verifying four years of teaching experience.
Standard Certificate Holder: You are requesting a one-year reinstatement to complete professional development requirements for registering a valid and active Standard and/or Master teaching certificate(s). You understand that during this reinstatement you must complete five semester hours of education-related coursework in addition to the applicable continuing education requirement that was not completed during the last validity period of your certificate(s).
Administrative Certificate Holder: You are requesting a one-year reinstatement to complete professional development requirements for registering a type 75. You understand that during this reinstatement you must complete the continuing education requirement that was not completed during the last validity period of your certificate plus the applicable penalty. If you failed to complete the required administrator academy in one year, you will be required to complete the missed academy, a penalty academy, plus the required academy for that current year for a total of three academies in one year. If you failed to complete the required number of professional development hours, you will be required to complete the missed hours plus ten hours penalty.
We will need the following first:
- Complete ISBE 73-93 Application for One-Year Reinstatement Mark one of the boxes that applies to you under "reinstating certificates to complete professional development requirements."
- A $5.00 personal check or money order made payable to ROE #40.
This will reinstate your certificate for one fiscal year. The certificate will expire June 30th after the date it is reinstated.
We will need the following if you have met the requirements for your reinstated certificate to renew for the five-year cycle (Don't submit until your reinstatement is over):
- Complete ISBE 73-10 Certification Registration Form
- A personal check for $25.00 made payable to ROE #40.
- Initial certificate holders: Either submit form ISBE form 73-97 Assurance Statement for Initial to Standard-Level Teaching Certification or go to Educator Certification System to submit form electronically.
- Standard certificate holders: Either submit ISBE form 73-98 Assurance of Completion of Professional Development for Renewal of Standard/Master Certificates or go to Educator Certification System to submit form electronically.
Administrative certificate holders: Go to Educator Certification System to submit form electronically.
Please submit your complete application to ROE #40.
