Lapsed Certificates

If you have not been teaching and your certificate(s) lapse more than five years, click here. (set “click her” to link to page with following content)

If you have not been teaching and let your certificate(s) lapse more than five years, such certificates may be reinstated for a one-year period upon payment of all accumulated registration fees. During this one year period, you will need to earn five semester hours of credit in a recognized institution of higher learning in the field of professional education or in courses related to the holder's contractual teaching duties; this may be any college coursework in the past five years or you can present evidence of holding a valid regular certificate of some other type from another state.

  2. By presenting evidence of holding a valid regular certificate of some other type from another state.

To apply for this one-year reinstatement, please submit the following:

  1. Complete ISBE 73-93 Application for One-Year Reinstatement Mark the box "reinstating lapsed certificates."
  2. A personal check or money order for the total amount owed made payable to: ROE #40. Please call office for exact amount owed.

This will reinstate your certificate for one fiscal year. The certificate will expire June 30th after the date it is reinstated.
We will need the following if you have met the requirements for your reinstated certificate to renew for the five-year cycle (Don't submit until your reinstatement is over):

  1. Completed ISBE 73-10 Certification Registration Form
  2. Pay the applicable fee amount
  3. Official transcripts showing the five semester hours

or

  1. Copy of the front and back of a valid regular certificate of some other type from another state.
