JumpStart Whipped Cream Day (1/6/25)

QUOTE:  "Here's the problem.  Most people are thinking about what they don't want, and they're wondering why it shows up over and over again." (John Assaraf)

MESSAGE:  As we start out a new year, I’d like to put forward three things to think about:
  1. Your NYR will most likely fail if they come from a place of scarcity.  If you are wanting to lose weight because you feel you are ‘fat’ or need a beach bod by Spring Break, that comes from a place of believing that you are somehow lacking.  You built the resolution thinking that if you only had this ‘thing’ your life would be better.  Try coming at it from the other direction:  I deserve to have a healthy life.

  2. If you are trying to find/re-find your ‘why’ before you go back for another semester, don’t be influenced by those people online with the perfect classrooms and cute handouts.  Why are you in the job that you are?  To be perfectly honest, I had a photo of my kids (then 4 and 1) on my desk those first few years.  On hard days, I would look at the photo, and say, “I’m doing this for you two!”  Some people teach because it’s a stable job with insurance or because they can be off in the summer with their kids, and that’s OK.

  3. There’s a lot of talk out there right now about ‘finding your purpose’. Blech!  To me, that can sound really classist because not everyone has the means to live their ‘true’ purpose.  I’m an artistic person and was told from a very young age that I wouldn’t be able to make a living as an artist.  A significant part of my purpose is to be creative and to make things. I could be really PO’d that the last 26 years of my life have been a waste because I’ve not been living my purpose as an artist/maker.  OR, I can live each day WITH purpose and find opportunities to make something every day, even if it’s dinner for my family. With the latter attitude, I can find contentment every day.

THIS WEEK TRY THIS:  As we slide back into our school routine, align each day with your values as ask yourself each morning, “What’s the most important thing I need to do today?”  With that in mind, make sure you do at least that ONE thing.

DAD JOKE:  How Dad Are You?  Which of these do you say?
  1. "Guess it's free then." (when the cashier has trouble scanning an item)
  2. "Found it!" (after pointing the stud finder to your chest)
  3. "Looks like we'll have to amputate." (when a kid has a minor injury)
  4. "Let's rock and roll." (when it's time to leave)
  5. "Did you fall in?" (when a kid takes too long in the bathroom)
